Aston Villa put on transfer alert as €10m Abraham claim emerges

Aston Villa could seize upon Roma’s financial woes to bring Tammy Abraham back to the club, according to a report in Italy.

TuttoMercatoWeb claim the Serie A outfit need to raise €10million before June 30 to comply with fiscal regulations and that Abraham could be sacrificed to do so. The 26-year-old had been enjoying a stellar career with Roma before injury hit last season.

Abraham, who was a key part of the Villa team Dean Smith guided out of the Championship and back into the Premier League in 2019, missed much of the most recent campaign after suffering a knee injury in the final game of the 2022/23 season.

He returned in April and still has two years left on the contract he signed when he joined Roma from Chelsea in 2021. Having come through the academy at Stamford Bridge he was loaned to Villa in 2018/19 and plundered 26 goals in 40 games, earning the affection of Villa fans for staying in the Championship rather than moving to Premier League Wolves midway through the season.

He has long been linked with a return but after doing pretty well for Chelsea the following year they eventually cashed in and sold him to Roma. The England attacker made a sensational impact scoring 27 times in 53 games in his first year and although his goal return dropped in his second, he remains well-regarded at the club.

But with many clubs looking to do deals before the end of the month Abraham could be in line for a move back to the UK, with Roma also linked with Federico Chiesa. Villa have their own considerations with interest in Jhon Duran and will be well aware of Abraham’s relationship with the Claret & Blues.

Only last month he described his season at Villa as: “Probably my best experience. When I look back, I had no regrets. It was an amazing club. I didn’t realise how massive they were until I signed. The promotion was probably one of the best moments of my career so far.” Abraham has also been linked with Leicester City and Bournemouth.
