Roy Keane thrown through pub window in scenes ‘like the wild west’ in Nottingham

Roy Keane has recalled how he was once thrown through a pub window during his time as a football player. The Manchester United legend spent three seasons at Nottingham Forest before moving to Old Trafford in 1993.

And it was just after he moved to United that the former Republic of Ireland captain found himself in a spot of bother at a pub in Nottingham. Keane recalls how he used to drink wine from the bottle and ended up in a scene “like the wild west” on a “sneaky night out”.

Keane was speaking on The Overlap, brought to you by Sky Bet, when he made the revelation. The Cork native denied that he was ever barred from pubs in either Nottingham or Manchester, but recalls “a few words” being said on one occasion which led to him being thrown the window of the bar.

“I used to drink the wine from the bottle, I wouldn’t have the glass – it was cheap wine – like £6. I was with a few lads and a few words were said, and this guy threw me out the window. I went through the window and a door, I landed out in the street, it was like the wild west! I was on the floor, but I still had the bottle of wine in my hand!”
