Sunderland warned over managerial appointment as Leeds United stars dubbed ‘inconsistent’

Sheffield United and Sheffield Wednesday are both in for busy summers as they prepare for the next Championship campaign. The Blades have work aplenty ahead of them as they look to overhaul their squad following relegation. Chris Wilder has been critical of his squad over recent months, and it’s clear he wants players who are more committed to the cause.

Prutton’s Leeds claim

EFL pundit David Prutton believes key Leeds United players did not turn up in big games despite dominating the Championship for much of the season. The Whites fell short in the play-off final, struggling to create against a solid Southampton side who beat Daniel Farke’s men twice in the space of a few weeks.

Prutton wrote in his Evening Post column: “Leeds haven’t turned up in several games and that’s because they are inherently inconsistent. The players that we are talking about didn’t light up the Premier League. Crysencio Summerville didn’t, Georginio Rutter didn’t. Some have experienced very high levels but they are inconsistent. If they weren’t, they wouldn’t be in between the Premier League and Championship.”

Sunderland warning

Sunderland are being tipped to appoint St Mirren boss Stephen Robinson as their new boss after missing out on Will Still. Former Owls star Carlton Palmer has told Football League World of the links: “It has emerged over the last few days that St Mirren boss Stephen Robinson is a candidate for the vacant managers job at Sunderland.

“It’s still believed that Will Still is their main target, but if they lose out on him to the French side Lens, then it’s come out that the St Mirren boss is on the list of potential replacements. The Northern Irishman took the Buddies into Europe, and back-to-back top six finishes. But for me, I think this would be an unbelievable gamble.
