Michael Beale issues brief Patrick Roberts injury update ahead of Newcastle United tie

Patrick Roberts is still doubtful for Saturday’s FA Cup Third Round match against Newcastle United, according to Michael Beale.

On New Year’s Day, Sunderland defeated Preston North End 2-0 without Roberts in the game. Alex Pritchard scored and made an impressive display from the right side, while Nazariy Rusyn scored the team’s first goal while assuming the position of central striker.

Sunderland is still awaiting the scan findings, according to Beale, after the vital winger hobbled off the field in the first half of their 1-1 draw with Rotherham United.

“We’ll have to wait and see,” Beale stated.

We’re currently awaiting the findings because we’re not entirely sure about him at this time. It’s understandable that getting scans and results during the holidays is more difficult. We’re not sure if he’ll be available for Newcastle, but I’ll let you know when I hear more.”

Speaking on Friday night, Beale expressed optimism that Roberts’ decision to come off so soon after experiencing discomfort would have spared him any serious harm.

Beale stated on Friday, “He mentioned he felt it being tight, so we’ll definitely get it looked at, but he doesn’t feel as though he’s popped it so we might be lucky there.”

With Dennis Cirkin back in training, Aji Alese’s welcome return on Saturday expanded Beale’s options for the derby. Due to a hamstring injury, Bradley Dack is still a serious worry for the team’s upcoming two games.
