After paying £7 million to acquire Minteh from Danish club Odense Boldklub in the summer, the Magpies promptly loaned the 19-year-old striker to the Dutch Eridivisie for a short period of time.

With four goals in 16 appearances, Minteh has made an impression in the Netherlands. On Wednesday night, he scored at Celtic in the Champions League, helping Feyenoord lose 2-1.

When the transfer window reopens in a month, it had been speculated that Newcastle might try to bring Minteh back to Tyneside. However, Howe has stated that is not a possibility.

There is no automatic recall mechanism in Minteh’s loan agreement, so the Magpies cannot just bring him back to Tyneside come January.

Though considering how crucial the striker has become to his temporary employers, it would take some tactful negotiation to attempt and reach a different agreement with Feyenoord officials and Minteh.

Howe said: “We can’t recall him. We could possibly come to an agreement with the club and the player, but there’s no clause.”
