Newcastle United Have Held Talks With The Agent Of This La Liga Keeper: Should Howe Snap Him Up?

Newcastle United have held talks with the agent of Villarreal keeper Filip Jorgensen as they look to bolster their squad this summer.

In a recent tweet, journalist Ben Jacobs claimed that Newcastle United have held talks with the agent of Villarreal keeper Filip Jorgensen. However, it is understood that the Magpies could face competition in the form of Chelsea in the race to land the Danish custodian.

Jorgensen’s Impressive Form In Spanish Football

Jorgensen has experienced a decent campaign in La Liga as he has managed to impress at times as Villarreal’s first-choice keeper. The 22-year-old has conceded 64 goals and kept six clean sheets in 37 matches for the Yellow Submarine this season in multiple competitions.

The Danish talent has done well to average 0.7 clearances and 4.9 long balls per 90 minutes in La Liga. He has even been accurate when distributing possession from the back after making 78% of his attempted passes in the Spanish first division

His current contract at the Spanish club will run out in the summer of 2027. Hence, Newcastle United would have to launch a convincing offer if they are serious about signing the Danish goalie later this year.

Should Newcastle United Boss Eddie Howe Snap Jorgensen Up?

Jorgensen can be a safe pair of hands in between the sticks for his team. He is a good handler of the ball and can use his quick reflexes to make a few solid saves at the back. Standing at 1.90m, the Danish talent can be a towering presence inside his penalty area. Furthermore, he excels at playing his way out from inside his half.

We can expect Jorgensen to enhance the quality of Newcastle United‘s match-day squad. He is good enough to offer some healthy competition for Nick Pope at St. James’ Park next season.

At 22, Jorgensen has the potential to be a world-class keeper someday as long as he continues to improve with each season. He would be a decent choice for the Magpies to consider this summer as he would help them compete across all fronts in the coming years.

However, it remains to be seen whether Jorgensen can make a smooth transition to life in the Premier League. Still, Eddie Howe would be wise to try everything in their power to lure him to Tyneside when the transfer window reopens next month.
