Celtic transfer news: Every player that could leave the Hoops this summer – including Matt O’Riley

Celtic could be see a number of players depart Glasgow this summer.

Celtic’s third consecutive Scottish Premiership title win was all but confirmed at the weekend when they overcame rivals Rangers 2-1 at Celtic Park to go six points clear with just two games remaining.

A first-half strike from Matt O’Riley and an own goal from John Lundstram sealed a third win in four over Philippe Clement’s side this campaign. Cyriel Dessers had managed to half the deficit but when Lundstram was shown a red card on the stroke of half time, the task of obtained a vital three points was made simpler as they all but confirmed the 54th Scottish title in their history.

However, despite another Scottish Premiership success, a number of Hoops stars could still be set for a summer departure. Here is every Celtic player who could leave for pastures new at the end of the current campaign.

1. James McCarthy – Departure

He has one year left on his Celtic contract but could see his time at the club cut short. Has not featured at all this season and will need to regain full fitness by playing more regularly, which feels unlikely with the Hoops.

2. Joe Hart – Retiring

The ex-England goalkeeper will hope to end his playing career on a high by winning the domestic double with the Hoops. The 37-year-old has already confirmed his retirement this summer, meaning Celtic will require a new number one next season.

3. Mikey Johnston – Departure

Johnston has flourished on loan to promotion chasing EFL side West Bromwich Albion. The Hoops player has always been on the fringes at Celtic Park and the Baggies could look to make his move permanent – especially if they can win the English Championship play-offs and get promotion back to the Premier League. Has a contract until the summer of 2025, so would require a fee if he departs.

4. Paulo Bernardo – End of loan

Scored a memorable goal in the 2-1 victory over Rangers but hasn’t been able to nail down a starting spot in the Celtic side. Has a reported £6million buyout clause inserted into his loan deal, the Hoops could yet make the deal permanent. Unless that clause is activated though, he will return to Benfica in the summer.

5. Adam Idah – End of loan

With seven goals in 13 matches, there’s an argument to say Brendan Rodgers could look to convert Idah’s loan spell at Celtic Park into a permanent one. However, at present, he is set to depart Glasgow this summer and return to Norwich City.

6. Liam Shaw – Departure

The 23-year-old has spent this season in the English third tier with Wigan Athletic and has just a year left on his contract at Celtic. It is beginning to look unlikely Shaw will break into the Hoops starting XI so a more permanent move away this summer would make sense.

7. Maik Nawrocki – Departure

The Polish youth international was purchased in the summer for a reported fee of £4.3million but has struggled to get in the team ahead of Liam Scales and Cameron Carter-Vickers. Had interest from several European sides in January and will likely have suitors once again this summer.

8. Adam Montgomery – Departure

The 21-year-old full-back has a contract until 2027 with the Hoops but has endured an injury nightmare this season during two separate loan spells. Joining Fleetwood Town last summer, his spell with the Cod Army was cut short due to injury before he joined Motherwell in January. He suffered a hamstring problem on his debut against Alloa Athletic and has not featured since. Could depart the club in the summer once again on loan in order to regain fitness.

9. Matt O’Riley – Departure

The Danish midfielder is likely to have a lot of interest in the summer. Celtic rejected a reported £20million bid from Atletico Madrid during the January transfer window and interest in his services will intensify once again over the coming weeks and months.

10. Yuki Kobayashi – Departure

Unlike his fellow countrymen Kyogo Furuhashi and Daizen Maeda, this Japanese defender has struggled to make an impact at Celtic Park. His contract doesn’t expire until the summer of 2028, but he has only appeared in once in the Hoops matchday squad this season and is likely to leave Scotland this summer if a buyer can be found.

11. Sead Haksabanovic – Departure

Another player on a long term deal that appears to have no future at Celtic. The Montenegro international has spent the season on loan at English Championship club Stoke City after being shipped out to the Potters when he appeared to air grievances over a lack of game-time on his social media channels.
