Rangers hero Nacho Novo launches shock new career six years after suffering heart attack

Rangers cult hero Nacho Novo is set to enter the boxing ring in a bizarre change of occupation.

The Ibrox hero is set to face TikTok and social media star Caz Milligan at the OVO Hydro on August 10.

Tickets are already on sale for the fight in Glasgow, priced at £47 each.

After the fight was announced on Milligan’s social media channels, Novo opened up on the bout.

He said: “Twenty years ago I used to score goals for Rangers.

“Twenty years later, I’m fighting my biggest fan.

“Well, after what I have been passed through – lots of problems in my life, health problems, whatever happens in life you have to try push yourself to do whatever you want to do.

“I am excited for this event, I hope everybody will come and support me and I hope people enjoy.”

He said: “Twenty years ago Novo was my highest goal scorer on FIFA. Twenty years later I am now fighting Nacho Novo.

“I’m doing this for the kids who have doubted, for those who have got a dream.

“I was once a kid with Novo 10 printed on my back. But now I am going to have the referee counting to 10 with Nacho Novo on his back.”

Novo is set to headline the event as he takes to the ring to fight Milligan, who is something of a Glaswegian version of Jake Paul.

The Spaniard is well remembered for his time at Rangers, scoring 73 times in 255 appearances for the Scottish giants.

That included the winning penalty against Fiorentina to send the Gers to the UEFA Cup final in 2008.

Novo spent six years at Rangers before stints in Spain, Poland and the United States, as well as returning to Scotland to play for Championship side Greenock Morton.

After retiring in 2017, the former striker suffered a heart attack a year later while playing in a veterans tournament for Rangers.

He also went on to suffer a stroke just months after his first health scare.
