Leicester City left looking on as Ipswich and Leeds United predictions made

Latest Leicester City news as the Foxes are the last of the three clubs in action over the weekend, meaning they can watch key results in promotion race unfold

Leicester City will be able to monitor the outcomes of their rivals for promotion over the weekend while they wait for their game, much like they can with this week’s midweek action.

With a 3-2 victory over Millwall on Wednesday night, City overtook Ipswich in the top spot once again. Following their 1-0 loss to Sunderland on Tuesday, City gained 11 points on Leeds in third place, pushing them back to the top of the league.

On Monday (8 p.m. kickoff), Enzo Maresca’s team returns to play at St Andrew’s against Birmingham City, which will be televised live on Sky Sports. It implies that on Saturday afternoon, supporters will be able to watch and follow the outcomes of both Ipswich and Leeds.

The Tractor Boys will once more move above City if they defeat their rivals from East Anglia, Norwich City, in their 12.30 p.m. kickoff. However, if David Prutton, a specialist on the EFL for Sky Sports, is right, that might not be the case.

“The East Anglian derby is back after almost five years, but we had to wait a long time for this fixture to return! What a fantastic event it seems to be,” he said to Sky Sports. “Since their last encounter in 2019, when the two clubs were moving in opposing directions, the roles have reversed.

“Although they have recently improved, Norwich is struggling a bit in the middle of the table whereas Ipswich is now flying high. Even if the Canaries haven’t defeated their opponents in almost 15 years, David Wagner is aware that the supporters won’t easily forget the loss at Portman Road. There should be goals, and Norwich has a chance to steal a draw.

Prutton’s prediction: Ipswich 2-2 Norwich

Following Ipswich’s clash against Norwich, the attention of City fans is likely to turn to Leeds’ game against Coventry City at Elland Road. It may be one of the rare occasions where the majority of City fans are cheering on the Sky Blues.

But Prutton believes Leeds will reduce the gap on the top two to eight points ahead of City’s trip to Birmingham.

“Leeds have as many points after 21 games as Burnley did last season,” he said. “The difference is the Clarets did not have to contend with the runaway pace of Leicester and Ipswich, which has made setbacks like the one at Sunderland in midweek seem disastrous.

Coventry are ticking along and improving. They were held by Southampton in midweek, and it will be interesting to see how much chasing around against the Saints will have taken out of them as they head to Elland Road. But I’m tipping Leeds to bounce back and win.”

Prutton’s prediction: Leeds 2-1 Coventry

After a weekend of following other results, City may get the chance to increase their advantage at the top of the league against Wayne Rooney’s Blues. That will be the case if Prutton’s predictions prove to be right.

“That was a massive win for Wayne Rooney and Birmingham at Cardiff,” he said ahead of the visit of City. “Just his second since taking charge, and easily their most impressive of the two. Can that kickstart their season?

The issue is that Leicester is their upcoming opponent. After their brief decline in performance, they reflect on song, and it will take a lot for the Blues to stop them. In my opinion, they won’t. The foxes prevail.

Prutton’s pick: Leicester 0–2 Birmingham

By the end of the weekend’s games, City would be three points ahead of Ipswich in second position if Prutton’s forecasts come to pass. Additionally, they would continue to lead Leeds by 11 points in third place before taking on Ipswich on Saturday, December 23.
