Bayern Munich want former Aston Villa coach to join Vincent Kompany’s coaching team

Bayern Munich want to reunite Aaron Danks and Vincent Kompany after the Belgian was appointed as their new head coach this week

Bayern Munich reportedly want former Aston Villa coach Aaron Danks to join Vincent Kompany’s backroom team.

Manchester City legend Kompany was appointed as Bayern’s new head coach on Wednesday and according to the Daily Mail, Danks is on course to reunite with the new Bayern boss after he worked with the former Burnley manager at Anderlecht for a short period.

Danks joined Villa in September 2021 as an assistant to Dean Smith following the departure of Richard O’Kelly. The 43-year-old then remained at the club after Smith’s sacking to work in Steven Gerrard’s coaching team.

Days after Gerrard was relieved of his duties in October 2022, Danks took charge caretaker charge of Villa’s home Premier League match against Brentford alongside Neil Cutler. Villa won the match 4-0 after racing into a three-goal lead inside the first 14 minutes of the game.

He later left the club after the arrival of Unai Emery and joined Middlesbrough to work with Micahel Carrick. The Daily Mail claim that Danks is now expected to leave Teeside for Bavaria.

Speaking of his appointment at Bayern, Kompany said: “I’m looking forward to the challenge of FC Bayern. It’s a great honour to be able to work for this club – FC Bayern is an institution in international football. As a coach, you have to stand for what you are as a character: I love having the ball, being creative – but we also have to be aggressive and courageous on the pitch.

‘I’m now looking forward to the basics: working with the players, building a team. Once the basis is right, success will follow.”
