While Fulham and Palace are also interested, Nottingham Forest is want the “amazing” EFL 21-year-old.

Nottingham Forest are interested in signing Pierre Ekwah when the January transfer window opens next month. The Sunderland gem is a wanted man, with Fulham and Crystal Palace also keen.

Ekwah left West Ham to join the Black Cats, agreeing to a four-and-a-half year contract. This season, he has made 15 appearances, one of which was as a substitute against Leeds on Tuesday.

Now, the player is going to be a wanted man. The defence-minded midfielder Ekwah is now on the radar of Forest as they look to reshuffle their pack once again.

It’s interesting to see transfer rumours emerging. Forest head coach Steve Cooper finds himself under a bit of pressure, although it’s been claimed this week that no departure is imminent for the incumbent.

Forest want to sign Ekwah in January

According to TEAMtalk, Forest are now showing a serious interest in Ekwah. Fulham and Palace will provide stern competition for his signature but the Reds are definitely in the mix.

Ekwah burst onto the scene at Sunderland last season. In total, he’s made 34 appearances for the club and scored his only two goals in a 5-0 win over Southampton back in September. Ekwah, 21, is a talented player and he has an abundance of untapped potential. Forest have a squad that possesses some talent and perhaps the idea is to look for even more next month.

Forest strategy seems obvious for January

Yesterday, it came to light that Middlesbrough youngster Hayden Hackney was on the radar of Forest. He’s also a talented youngster – and also played in defensive midfield.

As a result, it would suggest that Forest are keen to add two things to their squad next month; someone who can be a calming influence in midfield and players with potential.

Ekwah was praised by Tony Mowbray during the 2022/23 campaign. He called him ‘amazing’ as Sunderland secured a place in the Championship play-offs during their first year back in the division.

Rumour rating: 7/10 – As a young player, it’s hard to give him any higher, although his profile does feel quite a nice one.

Ekwah is young, relatively raw and can operate in a position that Forest will perhaps need reinforcing soon.
