Newcastle United co-owner Mehrdad Ghodoussi has issued a passionate message to supporters following the club’s exit from Europe.

Leading 1-0 at half-time against AC Milan courtesy of Joelinton‘s stunning opener, Eddie Howe‘s side had one foot in the last 16 of the Champions League with Paris Saint-Germain drawing away to Borussia Dortmund.

Dortmund and PSG drew 1-1, which meant that second place in Group F would go to the Magpies if they held out. Before Samuel Chukwueze’s goal in the 84th minute doomed the Magpies to the bottom, Christian Pulisic’s equalizer saw United fall to third place and a Europa League berth.

Shell-shocked by the way the evening transpired, the fans nevertheless got up to cheer Howe and his players at the end of the game, with the Gallowgate End yelling “Eddie Howe’s black and white army” as the team made its post-match lap of honor.

From the director’s box, Ghodoussi observed everything happen and was quick to thank the supporters for their encouragement and provide a timely reminder of the club’s positive direction.

“I want to thank each and every one of you for your amazing support tonight,” he wrote on X. Over the past three months, the crew has taken us on an amazing adventure, giving it their all. We expected better, but it’s football. We’ll get back up and concentrate on Saturday.

@ghodoussi
Thank you to every one of you for your incredible support tonight. The team gave it their all and took on us on an incredible journey these last few months. We deserved more, but this is football. We will pick ourselves up and focus on Saturday. We still have a long season ahead of us. As I’ve said before, we are building something special here and we will continue to grow. The future is bright 🙏🏻
