A Leeds United fan was allegedly slashed in the neck and left covered in blood after their Championship play-off clash at Norwich City.

The violent incident occurred when the Leeds fan engaged with a group of Norwich supporters over alleged chants about past tragedies, following the meeting at Carrow Road on Sunday afternoon.

It is understood tensions flared after the play-off match ended in a stalemate, leading to police intervention. Norwich have confirmed that two people have been arrested and they are working with the police to identify those involved.

The poster further tweeted: “We came out of Carrow Road after the game to Chants of Turks with knives and Galatasary.. whilst asking the lads why it was said my dad was slashed in the neck with a blade and hit by a full can… if anyone knows anything please speak up #lufc #ncfc.”

Norwich are working with Norfolk Police to understand what happened, with investigations into the matter now taking place.

Leeds United fans have been subjected to taunts from opposing fans about the fatal stabbing of two of their own in Istanbul before a match against Galatasaray in 2000, an incident that has haunted the club for decades.

Christopher Loftus and Kevin Speight tragically lost their lives after being stabbed by a local man during street clashes the night before Leeds played Galatasaray in the semi-finals of the 2000 UEFA Cup.

On the field, Leeds boss Daniel Farke was left unhappy by the goalless draw, after seeing Junior Firpo’s effort disallowed for a marginal offside call against striker Georginio Rutter.

He said: “I expect myself to be spot-on with my decisions when there is so much at stake. If you want to be in charge of such a (big) game, you have to do the same if you are an official.

“I have 12 apologising letters at home already during the season with offside goals and penalties not given. If we would have used VAR during this season we wouldn’t be in the play-offs – we would have been promoted automatically.

“I’m pretty annoyed – it definitely wasn’t offside. I feel like we should go with the rule that, when in doubt, you give the benefit to the attacking side.

“Everyone speaks about what these games are worth, so the decisions have to be right. Perhaps the whole stadium would be moaning if he gave it to the away side, but I have to make sure I’m not raging too much.

“Overall I’m happy with a draw and a clean sheet – obviously the last few games of the regular season were not great because we conceded way too many goals, but today we were rock-solid.”
