‘He’s magnificent’… Michael Dawson picks his Nottingham Forest Player of the Year

Michael Dawson has selected the Nottingham Forest player that he thinks should win the club’s Player of the Year this season.

The 2023/24 campaign won’t live long in the memory – that much is definitely true.

Forest have limped towards safety. Saturday’s win over Sheffield United means the Reds need just one more win to be pretty much assured of survival.

The Reds have a three point advantage over Luton and also have a far superior goal difference.

Although the season has been largely drab, there have been some positive moments for Forest to look back on.

Now, Dawson has chosen which player he feels should be named as the Forest Player of the Year.

Michael Dawson names Morgan Gibbs-White as Forest Player of the Year

Well, there could be a few names in the mix this year for this particular accolade.

Forest have had some good performers this term, particuularly at the top end of the pitch.

Gibbs-White, Anthony Elanga and Callum Hudson-Odoi have all been in good form and would be worthy nominees.

Chris Wood would have to be in the mix too, with his 13 goals proving extremey important for the Reds.

At the back, Murillo and Neco Williams would be great shouts too but Dawson has plumped for Gibbs-White.

He told Sky Sport: “Defensively I have always been concerned, but they can score goals.

“With Callum Hudson-Odoi, Elanga, Chris Wood and Morgan Gibbs-White, last season he was Player of the Year and this year he’s been the Player of the Year as well.

“I think he’s been magnificant.”

Forest face fight to keep hold of star player

Gibbs-White has been a fantastic player for Forest again this season, with six goals and eight assists to his name.

The Reds forked out an initial fee of £25 million to sign the attacker, with Steve Cooper making him a priority following promotion.

Forest could end up paying more to Wolves in add-ons but now they might face a different challenge altogether.

With financial fair play likely to remain in the background next season, Forest will almost certianly face the concept of selling a top player.

That makes Gibbs-White somewhat vulnerable and Forest will hope they can survive and then plot a way to keep their best players.
