Supporters of Newcastle United howl when Elon Musk’s X mocks Sunderland by making fun of Kieran Trippier

Nearly a week after the Tyne-Wear derby, Newcastle United fans are inconsolable after Sunderland was made to look silly.

Fans of the Black Cats are still receiving salt in their wounds six days after the game. In the lead-up to refurbishing their hospitality bar with black and white Newcastle memorabilia, Sunderland was humiliated around the country.

Newcastle United player ratings: 'Class above' 9/10 & 'outstanding' 8.5/10 in Sunderland win

On the pitch, it got worse as the Magpies coasted to a comfortable 3-0 win – their first victory over Sunderland for almost 13 years. The banter between fans had just begun to subside when a pre-game social media post resurfaced.

“Community notes” are a new feature on X, formerly Twitter, that lets people edit or validate posts. This will prevent false information from spreading and keep users of the platform informed.

But one Sunderland supporter suffered a terrible loss at the hands of the moderation system. Before the match, a user going by the handle @James986_ stated that Jack Clarke, a winger for Sunderland, will “rip Kieran Trippier a new one” in the derby.

Considering that the Newcastle player hardly gave him a kick, it’s reasonable to say that this Black Cats supporter is not psychic. The social media app made things worse by pointing out the user’s error, which made Toon fans laugh uncontrollably.

“Excellent, excellent work community notes, just excellent,” was one reaction. One week later, someone else made a joke about being “in tears” after seeing the post with the amended community notice.

Some comments said things like “aged like milk,” while someone else joked to X (the former Twitter) that the message was “helpful” when they saw the post and answered the automated question.
