Wolves boss Gary O’Neil is charged by the FA over furious reaction to ruled-out equaliser against West Ham – with head coach facing potential touchline ban for his actions at Molineux

Gary O’Neil faces a potential touchline ban after he was handed an FA charge following his furious reaction when Wolves were denied a late equaliser last Saturday.

Wolves thought Max Kilman had made it 2-2 deep into stoppage time against West Ham only for the goal to be chalked off after a long VAR check, as substitute Tawanda Chirewa was judged to have impeded Hammers goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski from an offside position.

O’Neil labelled the call ‘possibly the worst decision I have ever seen’ and now looks set to pay the price for his outspoken reaction.

Wolves have been on the end of several contentious VAR calls this term and O’Neil’s frustration boiled over after the latest one, determined by referee Tony Harrington and VAR Tim Robinson.

‘I wasn’t able to control my emotion well enough to get an explanation,’ O’Neil said. ‘The referee said he would rather not discuss it given how I was acting.’

O’Neil also revealed his players do not believe they are being ‘respected’ by officials and will find it difficult to calm their emotions.

He added: ‘I have talked them down before, but I can’t expect to do that this time. They are incredibly frustrated at the decisions this season.

‘It is very hard for me to stand in front of them with any integrity and tell them they are wrong.’
