‘Where’s he supposed to go?” – Open Goal pundit in bizarre Silva pen defence, it’s laughable

Day four in the Big Brother house and the penalty that saw Philippe Clement’s Rangers side find a way back into Sunday’s Old Firm derby is still causing some sleepless nights.

The Gers boss was rightly proud of his men, even if the first-half showing was one of the worst of the season and in particular since the big Belgian arrived in Glasgow and breathed new life into a battered squad.

Fabio Silva made the most of the contact from Alistair Johnston, of that there is no doubt, however, in amongst some bizarre excuses, Kevin Kyle on Open Goal has come up with the worst, which sent fellow former Rangers player Andy Halliday over the edge.

With three Celtic supporters and Halliday, it was never going to be an analysis that was grounded in neutrality, especially given the nature of the Old Firm.

All four are former players though and you would like to think this gives them a better idea than most as to what does and what doesn’t constitute a foul.

Sadly not.

Halliday begins the discussion with a rational and accurate reflection of what happened at Ibrox.

There was no exaggeration, conspiracy claim or fabrication

And then, Kyle gave his interpretation – the video contains some strong and offensive language.

“My take on it is this, Silva has faced up Johnston and he’s went one way and he’s went another way.

“So the natural movements of the body, right, so your body’s going with him. The weight’s going one way, the weight’s going the other.

“So, as he’s went one way, Johnno’s gone with him, as he’s then chopped him, Johnston’s already like going down because of the way he’s (Silva) doing the chop.

“So he sticks the foot out, which gets the touch, where’s he supposed to go?”

Why is Kevin Kyle making something up?

Where do you start?

How about, if Johnston doesn’t stick a leg out when Silva turns him, he wouldn’t have been falling over or make contact with the Rangers forward.

Silva isn’t going down before the Celtic right-back catches him on the knee, anyone with eyes can see that, just as anyone can see that he exaggerates the contact.

Welcome to football in the 21st century, what forward doesn’t go down easily in the box?

It will be interesting in future weeks when Kyogo inevitably draws a foul with minimal contact how that gets assessed because it is only a matter of time.

What I don’t understand, is why are individuals like Kyle making things up.

Silva doesn’t dive before Johnston catches him and Cameron Carter-Vickers is getting nowhere near the ball, he’s about 10 yards away!

Kyle loses the argument when he starts swearing at the end of his rant and that’s what it comes down to.

They can’t handle any decision that goes against them because they’ve been conditioned into thinking everything is a conspiracy against them with the likes of Michael Stewart and Chris Sutton fueling the flames.
