Bank holiday bottlers, difficult times, crucial summer window – Your Coventry City questions answered

It’s the business end of the season and Coventry City still have plenty to play for in the final few weeks of what has been another entertaining Championship campaign.

The Sky Blues experienced mixed fortunes over the Easter weekend with Monday seen a very much a missed opportunity to claw back valuable ground on their nearest play-off rivals, Norwich City. And now they face another potentially pivotal week with two tough games against top opposition in the division, starting with Leeds United at home and swiftly followed by Southampton away.

One question on one fan’s mind is whether Mark Robins’ have the bottle to get the job done after Monday’s disappointment against Cardiff. Here, Sky Blues reporter Andy Turner answers supporters’ questions in this week’s Q&A.

Isn’t it true the players bottled under pressure? Blaming fatigue is a bit rich.

AT: I don’t think they bottled it. There are many reasons for losing a game or not playing well. Mark Robins might have been better served freshening things up slightly with a tweak here and there but you can’t legislate for or afford to give away two own goals – the first of which was bizarre. They should have won, or at least got a point, but they remain only four points away from Norwich so it’s all still to play for as we head into another key weekend.

I don’t think 73 points will get a play-off place so is promotion out of our reach?

AT: I think that while they are still only four points off Norwich then they are still in it. There are some difficult games to come, for sure, but you just never know. The Canaries play Ipswich this weekend and if they lose and the Sky Blues beat Leeds then it will be really interesting. Conversely, if Norwich win and City lose it could be all over bar the shouting.

Are any city players at risk of a suspension with further yellow cards?

AT: I think the only one pending is Kasey, who will sit out the semi-final. He’s got the most yellows (10). Bobby is next with 8. The second booking amnesty was after 37 games.

Supposing you had the choice between an FA Cup final or a play-off final, which would you take?

AT: I think the fact that it’s highly likely to be Man City in the final, I would rather be in the play-off final. The last thing anyone would want is a humiliating, one-sided cup final. I’m not saying the lads wouldn’t give it a good go but the gulf is ridiculous. Another play-off final would be tough, given those involved in the current mix, but certainly winnable if City played to their potential on the day. So definitely the play-offs – final answer!

I have enjoyed seeing the team Improve every time I have managed to get across to Coventry & watch them play. The Fans have backed the new regime and I think that has paid off. I think we are on the brink of being a very good side.

AT: I agree, they’re one decent summer window away from taking it to the next level and being a real force in the division.

Considering how much turmoil our beloved club has had to put up with since leaving Highfield Road, I’m so proud to be a fan witnessing the club trying to achieve promotion to the top tier. And a bonus of a semi final cup game. Well done to all.

AT: Well said, sir!
