Nottingham Forest have seemingly just taken subtle dig at the Premier League on their official account

Nottingham Forest were deducted four points on Monday and the club have done something this morning that suggests they’re feeling a little bitter over the ordeal.

Today would have been the 89th birthday of legendary manager Brian Clough. The sad passing of the iconic boss came in 2003 and his legacy forever lives in the hearts of Forest supporters.

Clough won two European Cups with Forest and the only trophy that alluded him during his entire career was the FA Cup – something that he admitted had proved a huge regret when he retired.

Nottingham Forest take dig at Premier League on birthday of Brian Clough

Well, although Clough was one of the best in the business, it’s likely that he’d have hated the modern game. VAR wouldn’t have been his thing and the fact that things like points deductions are now common practice wouldn’t be something he desired in football.

Forest are clearly still extremely angry at the decision made by the Premier League. Today, they’ve conveniently used the birthday of Clough to remind the world of one of his famous quotes.

The club have posted on X a photo of Clough dressed in his iconic green jumper, with the quote: “We feel we should have a voice in running our industry. And I do mean ours, I don’t mean mind, I mean ours, because football belongs to everybody.”

In our view, this is a clear message from the football club. It’s a dig towards the Premier League with the powers that be seemingly hellbent on punishing the likes of Everton and Forest, whilst Chelsea and Manchester City get away with doing whatever they please.

Clough remembered on birthday

What Clough achieved with Forest will never be repeated at the City Ground. He took a newly promoted side to European Cup glory and then went and won it again the following season.

Furthermore, Clough was probably the best manager that the England national team never had. In fairness, he was never one for being a yes man and the Football Association wouldn’t have liked that type in charge of the team.

It’s always nice to remember Clough at Forest. Okay, the glory days of his tenure are a distant memory but the Reds will hope they can remain in the Premier League this season with the hope that more memories can be on the horizon in the future.
