More injury frustration for Gio Reyna! USMNT star missing again for Nottingham Forest as he sits out back-to-back Premier League

Gio Reyna is facing more injury frustration at Nottingham Forest, with the USMNT star sitting out back-to-back Premier League fixtures.

The United States international has seen limited game time off the bench since moving to the City Ground on loan in the winter transfer window. Efforts to earn a more prominent role under Nuno Espirito Santo are being hampered by physical ailments.

Reyna missed out on a place in Forest’s matchday squad against Liverpool due to a “knock” and was unable to train with the rest of the Reds’ squad ahead of a trip to Brighton. Nuno admitted in the build-up to that game that his injury list was “the same”.

As a result, there was no place for Reyna in Forest’s plans when team news dropped at the Amex Stadium. With the 21-year-old working his way back to full fitness, the likes of Morgan Gibbs-White, Divock Origi continue to fill creative attacking posts for Forest. Reyna’s USMNT team-mate, Matt Turner, once again had to make do with a place among the substitutes.

Reyna has seen just 39 minutes of action for Forest, with all four of his appearances coming off the bench, and he will be due back at Borussia Dortmund over the summer as his loan deal in England – which sees him battling to avoid relegation out of the Premier League – includes no purchase option.
