Coventry City Q&A – Pivotal week as Sky Blues need to stay in touch with chasing play-off pack

All eyes are on tonight’s FA Cup quarter-final draw as Coventry City fans await to see who the club will face in the last eight of the competition. With the Sky Blues now the lowest ranked club left in the competition, drawing a fellow Championship side would provide the best chance of progressing to a big semi-final day out at Wembley, with a home draw at the CBS Arena preferable.

A big away day at one of the top Premier League clubs might provide a bit of excitement but, as Manchester City showed against Luton, the top clubs will be in no mood for an upset at this stage of proceedings.

Mark Robins’ team will put their play-off credentials to the test when they travel to West Brom on Friday night as they return to Championship action. Having won 11 of their previous 17 league games at The Hawthorns and only losing three, the Baggies have a decent record at home.

In addition, Coventry’s roster appears lean as Tatsuhiro Sakamoto’s season-long absence adds to the already limited availability of Jamie Allen and Ben Sheaf, who could be sidelined for up to six weeks. The club’s inability to bring in additional players in January seems to be biting them in the rear, even though it wasn’t for lack of trying.

That being the case, Robins now has to manage his squad and attempt to stay in touch with the play-off chasing pack in the remaining 12 games.

Elsewhere, City’s recruitment department are busy working on plans for the next transfer window and the opportunity to strengthen further, and build on last summer’s arrivals.
