FA charge Sheffield Wednesday with misconduct over Coventry City incident

Following an alleged racist incident involving Kasey Palmer during last month’s encounter against Coventry City, Sheffield Wednesday has been charged with misconduct by the FA.

The claimed event occurred during stoppage time at Hillsborough, where the Sky Blues defeated the Owls 2-1 to win the Championship. As a result, play was temporarily stopped.

The Football Association (FA) has released a set of regulations and a disciplinary update regarding the incident. The text states that Sheffield Wednesday has been charged with misconduct related to crowd control after their EFL Championship match against Coventry City on Saturday, January 20. It is alleged that the club failed to ensure that their spectators and/or supporters (and anyone posing as supporters) conduct themselves in an orderly fashion during the 94th minute, and don’t use words or otherwise behave in an improper and/or offensive and/or abusive and/or insulting way, with the express or implied reference to ethnic origin, color, or race. Sheffield Wednesday has until Wednesday, March 6 to respond to the charges.

It’s understood the South Yorkshire club could face a sanction of either a financial penalty, closure of a stand or be forced to play a match or matches behind closed doors without fans.
