Micah Richards says £82m player ‘should have waited’ and signed for Man City

Harry Kane, in Micah Richards’ opinion, ought to have waited and signed with Manchester City or Real Madrid rather than Bayern Munich.

Though he has scored 278 goals for Tottenham, Kane has never taken home a trophy in his career, making him one of the greatest strikers in Premier League history.

This past summer, the England captain made an £82 million transfer to Bayern to finally change that, but things don’t seem to be going well so far.

While Kane has been scoring goals in Germany, he has already lost a DFL Super Cup final and been eliminated from the DFL Pokal. This week, Bayern lost the first leg of their Champions League last 16 match against Lazio and now trail Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga.

Richards now believes he should have waited until Kane was a free agent in 2024 rather than making the move because it appears unlikely he will win a championship this season.

Kane is greatly admired by City, who attempted to recruit him in 2021 but were turned down by Daniel Levy, the chairman of Tottenham.

It proved to be a huge success because the Blues bought Erling Haaland for half the price the following summer, and his goals propelled them to a triple.

Why would City have pushed to sign Kane when they already have a younger, more effective striker to lead the line, even if he did wait until he was a free agent?

Perhaps Pep Guardiola could start them both with Kane in a more supporting role as a creator, but it doesn’t seem realistic given the abundance of inventive midfield players he already has available.

Given that Real Madrid is said to be signing Kylian Mbappe, even a move there now looks unlikely.
So even if he does go trophyless this year, Kane still made the right choice.
