Phil Jagielka delivers Nottingham Forest and Everton FFP verdict as Man City question asked

Phil Jagielka has discussed how Manchester City’s FFP situation was handled differently than that of Nottingham Forest and Everton.

The Premier League filed charges against Forest for allegedly violating the Profitability and Sustainability regulations (PSR). Conversely, Everton received ten points after being charged a second time for violating Premier League financial regulations.

A few days after the Premier League season ends, on May 24, both lawsuits are anticipated to be settled. But with Manchester City’s 115 potential accusations still looming, both teams might feel they have been handled unfairly.

The former captain of the Toffees was questioned if he believed Everton was the target of a personal grudge during an interview on talkSPORT. “I can see why they (the fans) think that way,” he stated.

“I find it unbelievable that since the Premier League’s inception, just one club has ever made poor financial judgments. Only one team has had points taken away from them. I’m not familiar with the specifics or whether the rules have changed, etc., but if other clubs have gotten away with it, you can’t claim that it’s still under investigation. These investigations have been ongoing for 25 years, so who is going to care?

It must be completed within a certain amount of time, and it appears that someone decided, for whatever reason, that this would occur shortly. Both Evertonians and Forest supporters will feel deceived. If Forest loses ground due to point deductions, either they or someone else drops out. When I was at Derby, things were done incorrectly and there were points after points after points. Ultimately, Derby’s relegation was ensured by the Football League.

“And whatever of their intentions, you can’t take away 20 or so points and expect a team to win while claiming they can’t pay their players more than a certain amount, which is surely insufficient to field a League Two squad or even a team in the top conference. In essence, you’re implying that you made a mistake and that you will now have to pay the price, which is demotion by default. When you look at what’s happening at Everton, it appears to be somewhat similar.

Jagielka went on, “Over the years, there have been many other teams who have allegedly broken the rules—let’s say slightly or more than slightly—but that has never been resolved or determined. Everton has suddenly been awarded ten points, and Forest, who have hardly been in the Premier League, is suddenly receiving attention as well. There’s a problem. It’s hard times, but I guess certain rules had to be broken for Everton to accept it.”
