Lopetegui shares Wan-Bissaka update ahead of West Ham clash v Aston Villa

West Ham United manager Julen Lopetegui has admitted he is yet to decide whether Aaron Wan-Bissaka is ready to feature against Aston Villa.

The Hammers and their new manager get their Premier League campaign up and running against Unai Emery’s side at the London Stadium on Saturday (17 August) after a busy summer of incomings.

Wan-Bissaka is the eighth and latest first-team addition to the Irons ranks following his move from Manchester United, but Lopetegui has shared an update on his availability ahead of the curtain raiser.

As shared by Sky Sports News via X (15 August) he said: “Let’s see it is tomorrow we are going to have the decision.

“He has played in the position with Manchester United in enough minutes, but it is true that his first training session was yesterday so we will see tomorrow. We’re going to check tomorrow.”

Will Aaron Wan-Bissaka play for West Ham against Aston Villa?

Lopetegui is going to have several big calls to make ahead of his first competitive match in charge of the Hammers given the sheer amount of signings West Ham have made in his first summer at the club.

Some players will pick themselves in the starting XI, such as Max Kilman who has been in the building for the entirety of pre-season following his Wolves exit at the start of the summer transfer window.

Others like Wan-Bissaka and Guido Rodriguez haven’t had loads of minutes in pre-season or much time to train with their new teammates and that may well impact whether or not they’re included in the starting XI.

Ultimately, it is a blessing that the former Real Madrid manager has this many options to choose from. There were times towards the end of last season when David Moyes’ starting XI picked itself because of injuries and a lack of squad depth.

Hopefully, the Hammers will manage to get their campaign up and running with three points regardless of who Lopetgui names in the starting XI.
