‘Absolute pleasure’ – Newcastle United star announces departure after two years

After little more than two years, Callum Wilson, a striker for Newcastle United, has resigned from his role as host of the BBC Footballers’ Football Podcast.

The BBC Sounds podcast was launched in December 2021 by Wilson and Michail Antonio, the attacker for West Ham United. Since then, they have produced over 80 episodes together, sharing their special behind-the-scenes knowledge and often humorous antics with listeners.

But Fulham midfielder Tom Cairney will take up the mantle from The Magpies’ No. 9. “It has been an absolute pleasure and an honor to share this microphone and laptop with you for so long,” Wilson said to Antonio and host Rickie Haywood-Williams in his farewell episode.

“I love the podcast so far. It’s given me a fresh perspective and revealed a side of myself that others might not have known. But sometimes you have to go on to more exciting and fulfilling endeavors. I’m kidding, guys! I’ve enjoyed it and will miss you both.

“The best parts of this podcast are how we took it to the next level by including Ricky—though it’s questionable if he had a good influence or not! We started it out with just the producers and ourselves! I’m enjoying getting to know you all; it’s pleasant to have each other as a connection.”

“I’m not leaving on a bad note…,” Wilson quipped at that point. I’m just now bored.”

After recording his debut episode last week, Cairney expressed gratitude to everyone, saying, “I know I have big shoes to fill, but I’ll try my very best!” “To be honest, I kind of delighted to speak to somebody else,” said Antonio in response. Callum became monotonous towards the end. I will definitely miss the guy since he was excellent. You have large shoes to fill.
