‘What is the hold up?’ – Jamie Carragher shares theory over Everton points deduction appeal
|Jamie Carragher has questioned whether Sean Dyche’s team’s matchup with Crystal Palace at Goodison Park will be the time for the announcement on Everton’s appeal against a points deduction to be made public.
On Monday night, Everton will play Roy Hodgson’s team for the fourth match in less than three months. The Blues are currently in the relegation zone, but they could be catapulted back out of it if their appeal against the 10-point deduction they received in November—which is currently the most severe sporting sanction in 135 years of English top flight football—is successful. Based on their on-field performance, the team is currently ranked 12th in the table.
“I’m bullish on a positive outcome close to Valentine’s Day – hopefully a bouquet of roses rather than the thorns we’ve been getting recently,” former Everton chief executive Keith Wyness said in a recent interview with Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast. However, as of the time of publication, no statement had been made, and from what the ECHO understands, top Everton staff members had not been notified of the appeal’s outcome.
However, Bootle-born Carragher, a boyhood Evertonian who went on to make 737 appearances for neighbours Liverpool in a one-club career, tweeted: “What is the hold up on the appeals decision regarding Everton’s 10pt deduction?
“Since two weeks have gone, Everton and the surrounding clubs must take this seriously. By now, both they and the Premier League must be aware of their choice. Is the Premier League holding off until following Everton’s home match?
