JUST IN: Norwich boss David Wagner issues Coventry City apology and digs himself into deeper hole

Coventry City opposition view from CoventryLive as Norwich boss David Wagner clarifies his ‘not sexy’ comments

David Wagner issued an apology to the media during his post-match press conference at Carrow Road about his remarks about Coventry City, saying they were “not the sexiest.”

With his pre-match remarks on the Sky Blues, the Norwich City manager angered his counterpart Mark Robins by claiming that they weren’t “a big team in this league.”

After the game, as the two were leaving the media area, the German stopped Robins in the hallway and personally apologized. In response to the question of whether he observed any seductive football during his team’s 2-1 victory at home, Wagner stated, “It’s nice that you ask me this because I would like to make one point clear.” It goes without saying that I would like to apologize if there was any miscommunication.

“What I said—or at least I believe I said this—was that while Coventry isn’t the most attractive football team in the world, I actually think the opposite and I expressed how much I admire them and their style.

“In my opinion, there was a change in the way I expressed myself.” It’s possible that I misspoke or that someone else intentionally used incorrect language. If I made a mistake, I sincerely apologize. It’s not right that I believed they didn’t have the biggest names in this division or that they didn’t play the sexiest football. This is all I wanted to say about their excellent, seductive football.

“They are a great team, they play really good football, and they absolutely deserve to be where they are and what they have accomplished this season and the seasons prior,” he continued.

“But I wanted to say that a lot of people from England, who know these clubs and the division better than I do, suggest they are not one of the top guns. This means that they think they are maybe not as sexy as other teams. I wanted to say, this is not my opinion but some people suggest it to me,” Wagner added, seemingly digging himself a deeper hole now.
