Nuno believes Nottingham Forest made the right decision to let go of the £10.5 million player.

Nuno, the head coach of Nottingham Forest, has expressed his opinion over the club’s choice to let go of Orel Mangala.

Mangala left Premier League team Forest to join French club Lyon during the January transfer window on a loan.

Orel Mangala, however, moved to Lyon during the January transfer window from Nottingham Forest. On loan, the 25-year-old defensive midfielder joined the French team. At the end of the current campaign, the Ligue 1 team might decide to make it permanent.

The Athletic claims that Lyon may eventually need to spend £30 million for Mangala, including add-ons. According to the report, Forest acquired the defensive midfield player from VfB Stuttgart in 2022 for £10.5 million.

In response to Mangala’s departure from his squad, Forest manager Nuno expressed his displeasure at not having the 25-year-old Belgium international available to him for the remainder of the campaign.

Regarding his departure from Mangala, Nuno is quoted by BBC Sport as saying: “I think it was a good situation for the club, good negotiation, with options and details involved.” We wish him all the luck in the world and have choices in midfield.

My View: Orel Mangala exit a surprise

Orel Mangala left Nottingham Forest, and I think that was unexpected.

After Nuno took over as Forest’s head coach in December, I observed that Mangala was not being frequently started in the starting lineup.

Under Cooper, the defensive midfielder was a regular, but Nuno presumably did not believe he was competent enough to play for his squad every week.

It will be interesting to observe whether Mangala’s departure has a negative impact on Forest. Remember that the Reds could wind up in the Championship at the end of the current campaign.

Mangala made one start, one substitute appearance, and one goal in the Premier League this season. In the 2022–2023 season, Mangala made 20 starts, seven substitute appearances, one goal, and one assist.
