Erling Haaland fumes on X after Man City denied winner against Tottenham by referee decision

After a strange refereeing call against Tottenham prevented Manchester City from winning in injury time, Erling Haaland became enraged.

Dejan Kulusevski scored in the last minute of normal time to cap off an exciting match at the Etihad Stadium, ending in a 3-3 draw.

Haaland was fouled by Emerson Royal as City pushed for a winner in the closing seconds. Match official Simon Hooper took advantage of the situation to let the striker put Jack Grealish through on goal, but he later blew the whistle to restart play.

Leading the demonstrations, Haaland yelled in Hooper’s face but to no effect. Shortly after, the full-time whistle blew, and he rushed out of the tunnel before reposting a video of the incident on X with the comment, “Wtf.”

Commentator Roy Keane stated that Hooper made a glaring mistake in his decision. “I think the referee’s obviously made a mistake,” he stated. He makes a bad call; clearly, Jack is through on goal, but for some reason, he blows the whistle. We can all understand that he is mistaken about that.”

Former Manchester City player Micah Richards continued, saying, “Up until this point, the referee had a fantastic game. He stops the play when he puts the whistle to his mouth and waves it to give himself an advantage. Jack Grealish is obviously onside at this point. It’s not completely clear to me.

“The evidence is clear to see; he didn’t blunder the first time, and Grealish has a one-on-one opportunity with the goalie. He should have let play continue.” It defies explanation.

He has the right to make a mistake, but I disagree with it since there have been far too many instances where play is permitted. Simply let the play continue if you’re unsure; you can always stop it later. Man City will therefore feel wronged.”

After the game, Pep Guardiola first declined to discuss the event, saying he wouldn’t “do a Mikel Arteta,” but he later acknowledged that these kinds of things do happen.
