Fans of the Sky Blues may have the opportunity to have their names placed on the pedestal of a statue honoring George Curtis and John Sillett, the heroes of the 1987 FA Cup.

The statue, which faces Jimmy Hill Way close to the Coventry Building Society Arena’s south entrance, will bear the names of those donors who have contributed ÂŁ500 or more to the initiative.
Through a crowdfunder, the club has already raised over ÂŁ16,000 toward the statue, and through donors, over ÂŁ135,000.

The Sky Blues were memorably led by George Curtis and John Sillett to safety in 1986 and FA Cup victory the following season.

In the 1950s and 1960s, the pair performed at the club as well. The bid was launched earlier this month by former Coventry City chairman Joe Elliott.

It will be incredibly memorable for people to look back on over time to see their name on the statue, he stated.

Many people have already made numerous contributions to the realization of this statue, which will honor George and John as they so rightfully deserve.

While giving ÂŁ500 would be a huge help, every donation has a certain amount that goes toward making this happen.

“A team mentality was the foundation of the 1987 Cup victory, and it will continue to be so when this statue is realized.”
