Following a £127 million investment, Newcastle United ownership “change” was disclosed in a Companies House report.

The ownership percentage that Amanda Staveley shares with Newcastle United has been cut in half.

With RB Sports & Media’s ownership stake rising to 14% and the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund holding steady at 80%, Staveley now owns 6% of Newcastle.

Staveley finished taking over Newcastle alongside PIF and RB Sports & Media in October 2021. PIF purchased an 80% share through NCUK Investment Limited, while Staveley’s Cantervale Holdings and Jamie Reuben’s RB Sports & Media each received a 20% share through JV1 Limited.

At first, Cantervale Holdings and RB Sports & Media each held an equal 10% of the club’s equity. However, it has been confirmed by a JV1 Limited Companies House statement that Staveley’s ownership in the club has decreased to just 6%, with RB Sports & Media now holding a 14% part.

According to the Companies House update, Cantervale Holdings has 34457795 ordinary shares in JV1, while RB Sports & Media owns 79937795 shares, meaning that there is a 6%/14% split in ownership.

According to Newcastle’s most recent financial statements, which were made public earlier this month, the club’s owners have contributed £127 million in “new equity” since the takeover, with PIF accounting for little more than £100 million of that total. The club reported losses of £73 million for the 2022–2023 season, despite record-breaking revenue of £250 million.

Cantervale, Staveley’s company, was paid £312,500 until the end of June 2023, according to Newcastle’s most recent accounts. In 2022,’strategic consultancy services’ cost £937,500. Staveley continues to play a significant role behind the scenes at St. James’ Park even with her diminished share.

The accounts showed that “The Company [Newcastle United Football Club Limited] has also paid £625,000 to Cantervale Limited during the year which will be refunded subsequent to the balance sheet date.”

Club records also verified that Staveley had received a loan of more than £1.2 million. November 2022 saw the disbursement of a £600,000 interest-free loan to cover legal costs, which was still unpaid by the end of June 2023. On August 31, 2023, a further £659,056 was subsequently loaned.

Senior club insiders say the loans will be fully repaid even if they are unable to provide the details.
