West Ham in pole position to sign £45 million midfield ace

Although West Ham United is now in the lead in the fight for Kalvin Phillips, they have not been able to come to a deal because of Manchester City’s outrageous demands.
West Ham United was predicted by Football Insider to be the front-runner for Kalvin Phillips’ signature. The £45 million midfield star may sign a loan agreement to leave Manchester City, but Pep Guardiola’s team is seeking a hefty loan fee, which might thwart any potential transfer.

As Kalvin Phillips looks to leave Manchester City as soon as possible, a lot of teams will be vying for his signature before the January transfer window closes. Since acquiring the £45 million midfield talent in the summer of 2022, Pep Guardiola has hardly used him.

After leaving Leeds United, Phillips has made a total of six starts for the team. If his circumstances don’t change, he worries about keeping his spot in the England squad. Guardiola does not think highly of the midfield player, which may allow him to leave, even if he stays on loan until the summer.

In the event that Phillips leaves Manchester City, West Ham is now seen to be the front-runner to sign the midfield player, and they have recently started discussions with him. Although there are worries about the loan amount required in the process, David Moyes is said to have pushed the club and director Tim Steidtn to sign the England international.

Manchester City is reportedly looking for a payment of £6-7 million in order to allow Phillips to go on loan. Despite their feeling that Phillips would prefer to join West Ham above other suitors, they are hesitant to spend that much. The Hammers may continue to speak with Man City in an effort to come to a mutually agreeable deal for the £45 million midfield star.

Are the demands of Manchester City a roadblock?
Manchester City, which invested £45 million on Phillips, is keen to end their losses. Given that many teams are currently unable to recruit the England midfielder on a permanent basis, they do not anticipate any team to spend that much.

Despite being the favorites to get him, Newcastle United has already dropped out of the running due to their demand of a £6-7 million loan fee. West Ham, who are now leading the race, might also give up if Manchester City does not budge on its demands.

Although the north Londoners view Phillps as a backup to other objectives like Conor Gallagher, Tottenham remains an option for Phillps. Therefore, West Ham has a limited amount of time to determine whether to pay Manchester City an outrageous loan price for a few six months.
