Coventry City Q&A live: January transfer window and that lingering contract issue

Halfway through the January transfer window, Coventry City has let go of one player and signed another, leaving supporters eager to find out if any more business will be completed before the deadline on February 1 at 11 p.m.

The first player to depart was Yasin Ayari, who was sent to Championship rivals Blackburn Rovers for the second half of the season after being called back from his season-long loan with the Sky Blues by his parent club Brighton in the opening week of the transfer window. Victor Torp was then acquired by Mark Robins last week after the team spent ÂŁ2.1 million on the Danish midfielder, who had been drawing attention with his strong play in the Norwegian premier league.

Although Torp can play in a variety of central midfield roles, Robins has made it clear that he is not a stylistic replacement for Gustavo Hamer. Fans will be interested to see what the 24-year-old can bring to the team once he returns to full fitness after missing five weeks due to the Scandinavian winter break.

Other questions remain, namely will any of City’s senior players be on the move this month and will Doug King put his hand in his pocket, or at least raid the club coffers, again with a big signing to help the club push for promotion. The Sky Blues have been in outstanding form in recent weeks, lifting themselves up from 20th place on 19 points just a few short weeks ago to sixth in the table on 40. They’re in a great position to push for the play-offs with 19 league games to go and the hope of a decent cup run to boot.
