Philippe Clement’s second Rangers signing will not be heavily Ibrox linked striker

Rumors that Rangers is interested in Groningen forward Kevin van Veen are “not true.”

The Sporting Director of the Dutch team has confirmed this to a prominent Dutch writer as rumors of an Ibrox switch for the forward gain traction on the internet.

New Rangers boss Philippe Clement's managerial style, character and more are assessed by Belgian Football Consultant Scott Coyne.

Working for RTV Noord in the Netherlands, Stefan Bleeker took to X to quote Wouter Gudde, the sporting director of FC Groningen.

Regarding the Rangers’ possible interest in Kevin van Veen, Gudde claims that “nothing true and nothing heard.”

“Nothing true” about Kevin van Veen rumours

The former Motherwell striker’s future in the Netherlands is a subject of much discussion, which is why Rangers are linked to Kevin van Veen.

The 32-year-old forward, who joined FC Groningen in the summer, is not on good terms with the team’s management and may be let go this winter.

Prior to moving to the Netherlands, the striker had previously stated that Rangers had expressed interest in hiring him, but he had declined a move because of his age.

The situation worsened this week when a Dutch newspaper that seems to have mistranslated parts of a British report mentioned Rangers as an interested party.

Kevin van Veen moving to Ibrox always seemed implausible, and it now seems Rangers officials have dismissed any prospective interest in the player.

Rangers bolster striker position

However, Rangers hasn’t wasted any time in adding to their roster this winter, having already revealed the addition of Philippe Clement.

The Rangers squad now has more forward options thanks to the major attacking signing of 21-year-old Wolves forward Fabio Silva, who is on loan with the team until the end of the season.

The £35 million striker transfer is viewed as a triumph at Ibrox, spearheaded by manager Philippe Clement and new Director of Recruitment Nils Koppen, who recruited the player at PSV last season.

Due to a number of injuries, Rangers’ attackers Danilo and Kemar Roofe are unlikely to make significant contributions this season.

It implies that Glasgow needs extra firepower, and Fabio Silva is one of the two forwards we might expect to join the team.

Now that Kevin van Veen is officially ruled out as of right now, Rangers may decide to focus more on their own fans.
