Blackpool striker Shayne Lavery believes the Seasiders have what it takes to cause an upset in their FA Cup third round replay against Nottingham Forest.

Last Sunday’s first meeting between the two teams at the City Ground ended in a 2-2 draw. Neil Critchley’s team had a two-goal lead with to goals from Albie Morgan and Jordan Lawrence-Gabriel, but the Premier League team was leveled by goals from Nicolas Dominguez and Morgan Gibbs-White.

Lavery was in the starting lineup for the Seasiders’ unexpected 4-1 triumph at Bloomfield Road in January of last year, so he is aware of what it takes to defeat Forest.

Looking ahead to Wednesday’s game, he said: “It’s going to be great. We beat them here last year in the FA Cup so all of the lads are buzzing for it.

“We played close at their place last week; they’re a fantastic team, so perhaps we can upset them again. Nobody is betting on us to win.

“They’re a formidable team, but maybe with the support of the fans, we can overcome them.”

Lavery has recently made his return from a hamstring injury- making cameos off the bench in Blackpool’s last two outings.

The forward acknowledges that he has gained a lot of knowledge from seeing his teammates on the sidelines and is now prepared to contribute.

“When I came on, I did feel good against Burton and Exeter,” he continued.

“In those games, I felt so well, but it generally takes me a few weeks to recover to that level. I feel exactly the same as always—I’m just eager to get going.

“I’m just delighted to be back. When I get on the pitch, perhaps I can help the boys and contribute. I put a lot of effort into making sure that this was indeed my final stint on the sidelines.

Everyone picks up on Rhodesy (Jordan Rhodes). You will succeed if you emulate his actions. His work speaks for itself; he’s certainly one of the most professional guys I’ve ever met. He has lifted everyone’s spirits, so we’re all thrilled that he will be here for the rest of the season.

“We also have Kaddy (Karamoko Dembele), who works extremely hard on the field, and Kyle (Joseph), who struggles to do what he does. Seeing their strengths and seeing them all has been beneficial.
