The Foxes led 1-0 at the half, but just before the interval, Abdul Fatawu received a straight red card. That turned out to be a bit of a turning point, as Coventry went on to win 3-1.

After the game, Dewsbury-Hall advised City supporters to let their Coventry counterparts “have their day” and explained that clubs that defeated Leicester probably felt like they had “won promotion themselves”.

“When we’re winning and doing so well in the league, when teams beat us, it’s genuinely like they’ve won promotion themselves,” Dewsbury-Hall said on City’s YouTube page.

“Let them have their day. It’s part of the game, isn’t it? It’s football. We’ll see what happens at the end of the season.”

On the game overall, the midfielder said: “Very disappointed. I felt like that was a game we didn’t deserve to lose. First half, created a lot of chances, probably should have been more goals in front.

“We played excellent defense for extended periods of the game in the second half. To be honest, I felt more at ease in the second half than in the first, and they didn’t really generate anything. I don’t think their ambitions are really good to give up on.

“It irritates me to be in there because I think the game should have given us more.” However, that’s just one of them; go on to the next and put it behind you.”

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall celebrates after putting Leicester City 1-0 up from the penalty spot against Coventry City at the CBS Arena.
