JUST IN: Bayern Munich’s Bouna Sarr could be in legal trouble

Bouna Sarr, the defender for Bayern Munich, has seen his situation worsen. A few weeks after suffering a season-ending injury to his cruciate ligament, the Senegalese international suddenly seems to be involved in legal issues.

According to Bild (via @iMiaSanMia), Sarr is being investigated for tax evasion, a major offense in Germany. A representative for the Landshut District Court stated that Sarr’s court date is January 18. The allegations made against the Bayern defender date back to a regular customs inspection in October 2022, during which Sarr encountered some difficulties passing through the immigration process at a Munich airport. It seems that he was in possession of a costly watch that had not been reported to customs.

Bayern Munich : Bouna Sarr fait tout chambouler !

According to German customs regulations, when you enter the country from outside the European Union, you must pay an import sales tax of 19% on any item that costs more than 430 euros. This applied to Sarr on that particular occasion, even if it was only an error on his part to fail to declare the expensive watch. While traveling abroad, a football player may not think about it initially, but the law remains the law.

Even though it’s unclear at this point whether Sarr’s standing contract with Bayern will be affected by this legal issue, the defender is still feeling the burn. He is already in a scenario where he is likely not to play for Bayern again and is running out the remaining time on his contract due to injuries. In addition to his recovery from his cruciate ligament injury, he will also need to deal with this legal matter.

Bayern still intends to let Sarr go this summer because his time as the Rekordmeister didn’t quite go as planned. His injury, which is now made worse by his off-field legal dispute, gives Thomas Tuchel and Christoph Freund to bring in defensive reinforcements during the winter transfer window.
