According to John Lundstram, he “would love to stay” with the Rangers and is optimistic that current negotiations will result in a contract extension.

Entering the final months of his current contract at Ibrox, the 29-year-old midfielder—who joined from Sheffield United in the summer of 2021—has had a career comeback since Philippe Clement took over as Gers manager in October, replacing Michael Beale.

The Englishman, who played a significant role in the team’s run to the 2022 Europa League Final and helped the team win the Scottish Cup and League Cup, says he wants to stay at the club for the long run. He was a key member of Clement’s squad early in the Belgian boss’s tenure.

Although Lundstram, who has made 130 appearances for the Gers, is free to sign a pre-contract with another team, he has made it clear that he wants to continue in Govan after the current season ends.

He acknowledges the obvious short-term success Rangers have achieved under Clement and says his entire attention is on chasing additional hardware in the second half of the season. The Glasgow giants will begin their Scottish Cup campaign after the winter break. They also hope to advance to the further stages of the Europa League and cut the gap in the Scottish Premiership title battle.

When asked about the possibility of a contract extension, Lundstram responded, “I would never hesitate to express my love and desire to stay with the club, but ultimately, the decision rests with me and the club.” And although it’s up to me and the club, I really hope it does. I’d really like to stay.”
