Sheffield United hopeful of major contract breakthrough as young star makes Chris Wilder future promise

After receiving assurances from the England U20 international that Bramall Lane is where he sees his future, Chris Wilder is determined that Sheffield United supporters will see Daniel Jebbison in a red and white shirt once more. At one point, some top United executives had come to terms with Jebbison’s contract expiring in the summer.

After the Blades were promoted to the premier league, the 20-year-old’s progress was hindered by a combination of injuries and a personal health issue. As a result, he has not played this season. After communicating with Jebbison and his family in an attempt to break the deadlock, Wilder now sees light at the end of the tunnel for United’s prospects of convincing him to sign another contract at Bramall Lane.

When asked if United supporters would ever see Jebbison pull on their shirt again, Wilder responded in the affirmative, ahead of this weekend’s FA Cup trip to Gillingham. He said, “You will do, 100 percent,” to The Star. “I spoke candidly and openly with his parents about Dan’s future after meeting him. He desires it to exist here. I have his word on that.

“We’re negotiating with his agency in the hopes that Dan will agree to a new deal. It makes sense that Dan’s parents would be fiercely protective of him and his future. Furthermore, nothing in our conversations with Dan and them suggests he won’t be involved in this project in the medium- and long-term.”

Wilder addresses striker speculation as United transfer moves closer

When Jebbison scored the game-winning goal against Everton at Goodison Park during United’s final Premier League season, he was just 17 years old and the youngest player to score on a team’s complete debut in the history of the tournament. The Toffees’ ÂŁ5 million offer for the Canadian-born striker was rejected shortly after, but if they can sign one of their best young players to a new, long-term contract, it will be a big boost to United’s future aspirations.

Regarding Jebbison’s schedule for availability, Wilder continued, “He has a couple of minor issues that we have to look after and take care of, making sure when he comes back it’s the right time for Dan.” Likewise, it applies to Rhys Norrington-Davies. The fact that he and Rhian [Brewster] entered the field during the most recent game against Manchester City thrilled me.

“Players don’t want to be hurt, but those weren’t the best circumstances for them at the times. The boys want to play football and, ideally, use their attitudes to positively influence and support the team. Furthermore, Jebbo is the same as Rhys and Rhian. Thus, with those three youthful players returning heading into the new year will be great for myself and the coaching staff.”
