Jamie Carragher says Newcastle may have to sell 26-year-old for £100 million in the summer

According to Jamie Carragher, Bruno Guimaraes may need to be sold by Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United in the summer of 2024.

The former Liverpool defender and Sky Sports analyst thinks Newcastle may need to sell Bruno in order to meet Financial Fair Play (FFP) requirements. Newcastle may then utilize the proceeds to sign new players.

So, what has Jamie Carragher said about Newcastle United and Bruno Guimaraes? Let’s take a look.

Newcastle United tipped to sell Bruno Guimaraes

Jamie Carragher has been expressing his thoughts about Newcastle United’s performance under manager Eddie Howe.

The veteran defender for Liverpool has observed the caliber of players Newcastle has added.

The Sky Sports analyst has stated that although players like Anthony Gordon and Sven Botman are not particularly elite, manager Howe has done a fantastic job of developing them into strong players.

At the conclusion of the season, Carragher added, Newcastle might have to let go of talented midfield player Bruno Guimaraes, who another analyst likened to Manchester City’s Rodri.

According to the commentator, Newcastle should sell the 26-year-old midfielder for Brazil’s national team and use the £100 million they receive for him elsewhere.

“What Newcastle are having to do right now and Eddie Howe is basically take players that the big teams do not want right now,” Carragher remarked on Sky Sports Premier League at 7:15 p.m. on January 1, 2024.

“You’re probably thinking of Sven Botman at the back, Guimaraes, Anthony Gordon, and Isak—those are the first few names that come to mind—and they all cost about £40 million. The best teams would have given them a quick glance and said, “Not for me.”

“They are still buying under what you would consider elite, which is a testament to Eddie Howe, who has done a fantastic job at Newcastle. And that will carry on for a very long time.

“And there’s actually talk to actually go again and comply with FFP; they might actually have to sell one of their best players. If someone were to offer £100 million for Bruno Guimaraes, for example, they might be able to sell and still go again.”

My View: Bruno Guimaraes will leave Newcastle in the future

The fans of Newcastle United will not like this, but I think Bruno Guimaraes’ departure from the team is just a matter of time. Barcelona is considering him.

Although Newcastle is a significant club and placed in the top four of the Premier League last season, they are not yet ready to contend for the league championship or have a significant influence in the UEFA Champions League.

This season, the Magpies might not be among the top four. Yes, the Public Investment Fund (PIF) of Saudi Arabia is very wealthy, but Newcastle must adhere to FFP standards, as Jamie Carragher has pointed out.

Bruno has been linked to Real Madrid. If the world’s largest club made a move for the midfield player in the summer of 2024, I doubt he would decline the opportunity to play for them.
