Wilson’s calf injury keeps him out of the game, while Trippier’s groin injury keeps him out as well. On Boxing Day, both players concluded the 3-1 loss to Forest.

Howe told Sky Sports, “I don’t think they’re too serious; they both picked up injuries in the last game.” “January is thankfully less hectic than December, but we’ll have to wait and see how long they’re going to be away.

It’s not like we’ve been training. The players we have had who were healthy and available have had to be protected. Now that we’re back to ourselves, hopefully, it’s important to start strong since the environment will be intense.”

In the Premier League, Newcastle has lost five straight games against Liverpool and six of the previous seven games overall. Howe has not won any of his previous 11 encounters with Jurgen Klopp’s team.

The Magpies’ manager is hoping that Trippier and Wilson will be fit for Saturday’s FA Cup third-round match at the Stadium of Light (12:45 p.m. kickoff) against Sunderland.
