Even though they weren’t the favorites to win the league at the moment, Bayern Munich was faltering. The significant changes that were taking place had caused confusion within the organization, and most people were eager to move on to the 2022–2023 season.

Below, Musiala explained everything:

You can understand that the week before the last matchday in Köln was like being on an emotional roller coaster. We felt like we had lost the title from the beginning of the week. We were all a little depressed. But we made an effort to remain upbeat as things improved day by day. It was evident that we have a strong sense of unity throughout the team and that we never gave up on our self-belief.

Every day, we all had more and more faith in our chances. There was still a game, we knew. Dortmund had to overcome their enormous fan expectations and win their home match against Mainz before we could win in Köln. Dortmund additionally possessed

Personally, I just focused on my game, I worked on my finishing with Anthony (Barry) all week, which I actually always do after training. We simulated and practiced finishing situations and shots on goal that could come up in the game. Over and over again, with lots of repetition. And then I got exactly the situation in the game that I had trained with Anthony and scored the goal this time.

I had a lot of bad luck with shots at the World Cup and in the weeks leading up to it (Köln), so I had to wait a long time to score. There were moments when I believed everything was cursed or jinxed because the ball would not go in.

The moment in Köln when I scored the goal I felt so much relief. That was how it was with all of us. For me, it was the most significant event since I began playing for FC Bayern. I was overwhelmed with feelings and unsure of how to handle them. I simply leaped around and screamed with delight. Everyone was running after me as I sprinted directly in the direction of our fans. Right then, I was just so delighted, and when the last whistle blew, that’s when

we saw the result of Dortmund – and relieved that we still became champions and I was able to contribute to it.

Of course we really enjoyed the moment and celebrated the title, but we all knew that we could play better. My focus then very quickly switched to the next season: to just have a good preseason and make sure that the title race does not get that close again and that we also have a better season in the Champions League.

My thoughts were then that the 2024 Champions League final will be at Wembley in London and that we have a home European Championship in Germany in the summer, which is a unique experience.

I train and work hard toward my objectives each and every day. I’m highly motivated and eagerly awaiting the new year.

You could sense that there was genuine tension both within Musiala as a player and with the team because he was being as transparent as possible about everything that was happening. The young player finally delivered when the squad needed him after months of difficulties.

That was undoubtedly what he really needed at such a hectic work moment.
