Midfield player set to Join Fulham

Sander Berge, a midfield player for Burnley, is poised to sign with Fulham. Manchester United had expressed interest in signing him.

It also means that Fulham will no longer be interested in Scott McTominay, even though they made two unsuccessful bids for him earlier in the summer transfer season and appeared to be unwilling to make a third. Berge will cost £20 million initially from Fulham, with a further £5 million to cover add-ons.

On Tuesday, him and his agent are heading to London for a medical check-up and to complete the relocation.

Joao Palhinha, who left the Cottagers last month to join Bayern Munich for a fee of up to £46.5 million, has been replaced. McTominay was a viable target for Marco Silva’s group, but Manchester United turned down two offers up to a maximum of £20 million.
They failed to meet an asking price of between £25 and £30 million, and further negotiations produced no better offer. As an alternative to the far more expensive Manuel Ugarte, Fulham turned to Berge, who was reportedly the subject of a bid from Old Trafford earlier this week.
Berge has since moved things ahead rapidly. Formerly also of Sheffield United in the Premier League, Berge was first a target for Man Utd back in 2019 when the club was specifically targeting raw talent during Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s reign.

Much to the amusement of fans, he was once even reported by a prominent local journalist to have arrived at Carrington, only for it to be a case of mistaken identity – the mystery player was little known goalkeeper Nathan Bishop, who went on to join the club from Southend United. Man Utd have continued their efforts to sign Ugarte, who agreed personal terms over a potential move to Old Trafford last month.

But Paris Saint-Germain is unwilling to lower their asking price of €60 million (£51 million), thus the clubs have not been able to come to an agreement on a transfer fee.
