Nuno Espirito Santo issues update on Danilo injury in huge blow to Nottingham Forest

The Reds will be without midfielder Danilo for some time after his injury during draw with Bournemouth at the City Ground

Nottingham Forest boss Nuno Espirito Santo has confirmed that midfielder Danilo broke his ankle in the Reds’ opening day draw with AFC Bournemouth.

The midfielder suffered the injury in the opening stages of the game after landing awkwardly during a challenge with Antoine Semenyo. Medical assistance was immediately called onto the pitch before shields were used to cover up the treatment. The game was delayed for several minutes

After the game, the Forest boss confirmed that the Brazilian had suffered a broken ankle. “It was a horrible moment for everybody,” he said. “He’s broken his ankle. It’s serious.

“We’re going to miss him, not only on the pitch but he’s a wonderful boy. He’s always smiling and we wish him all the best.”

Nuno continued: “Everybody loves him so much. He’s leaving the hospital now and then he’s going to be assessed tomorrow and after tomorrow. The good news is that he’s stable, he’s speaking and he’s aware.”

The Reds were denied an opening day victory at the City Ground when Semenyo levelled the scoring in the 86th minute. Chris Wood had opened the scoring in the first-half but Forest failed to hold on to the three points.

Anthony Elanga and Taiwo Awoniyi both went close to scoring against the Cherries after Chris Wood had put them ahead, but Forest failed to take their chances.
