Both sides come into the season with new managers as Milan took Paulo Fonseca from LOSC Lille while former Milan legend Alessandro Nesta is at the helm at Monza. Alvaro Morata, Strahinja Pavlovic and Emerson Royal were presented to the crowd with the former duo playing and Royal in the stands.

Alexis Saelemaekers opened the scoring after attempting an outrageous rabona which deflected off a Monza defender wrongfooting the keeper. Monza would equalise through a lovely move finished off Daniel Maldini with a strong side footed finish. The midfielder has just been permanently sold by Milan to Monza after a number of loan spells. He scored at the San Siro yet again making it his most prolific stadium.
