Bid submitted for £24m Wolves target as club rejected a loan bid offer

Arsenal reportedly received an offer for a Wolverhampton Wanderers target. The Gunners have rejected a loan bid from Ajax for backup goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale

Arsenal are unwilling to let the former England international leave on a temporary basis, with a permanent transfer favoured. Ajax remain optimistic over a deal being agreed, though, and are interested in making another move.

Ramsdale joined Arsenal from Sheffield United for £24 million in 2021. His first two seasons at the Emirates Stadium were a great success as he conceded just 82 goals in 72 Premier League matches. Ramsdale made made just six league appearances last campaign, however, as David Raya was signed as the new first choice.

Ajax’s bid being rejected could be good news for Wolves, as Gary O’Neil’s side have been linked with Ramsdale throughout the summer. TalkSport reported as recently as last week that Wanderers are interested in signing the 26-year-old as they seek to improve their goalkeeping department.

The same report claimed Wolves are also keen on Crystal Palace’s man between the sticks, Sam Johnstone. The Old Gold will listen to offers for current shotstopper, Jose Sa, if they manage to bring either Ramsdale or Johnstone through the doors at Molineux.

Wolves budget increases ahead of possible Arsenal swoop

Wanderers now have more funds to play with in the transfer market following the £54 million sale of star winger Pedro Neto to Chelsea. A chunk of that could theoretically be used to buy Ramsdale from Arsenal, though it’s understood signing a replacement for Neto is the priority.
