Erik ten Hag worries as Sir Jim Ratcliffe ‘had Man Utd sack deal’ with Glazers.

It has been suggested that Erik ten Hag’s future will be decided by Manchester United’s incoming part-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe, even before the Premier League approves his buy-in. On Boxing Day, the Red Devils overcame a serious scare against Aston Villa that may have further jeopardized the manager’s position.

Boos echoed around Old Trafford as United fell behind two goals in less than thirty minutes against the swiftly improving Villa, following yet another error by Andre Onana and a pitiful attempt to block a corner.

After a run of disappointing performances, Ten Hag was already under fire, so he gave one of the most significant half-time team speeches of his United career. Rasmus Hojlund’s first Premier League goal and a brace from Alejandro Garnacho completed a thrilling 3-2 victory, giving the Dutchman some breathing room. More importantly, his players responded.

He can’t unwind just yet, though, since The Telegraph reports that Sir Jim already has a vote in whether or not he gets fired, even though he still needs to wait a few more weeks for the Premier League to approve his purchase of a 29% stake.

Ten Hag is reportedly supported by the Old Trafford hierarchy as it stands. However, in the course of talks with the Glazers, Sir Jim insisted on being included in decisions regarding the future of the former Ajax manager in case higher-ups had second thoughts.

The INEOS CEO, who owns a smaller share of the team, is expected to take over the Glazers’ management of United’s athletic department. It’s unclear at this time if Sir Jim thinks the Red Devils will have a new leader.

Following a falling out with Ten Hag, Jadon Sancho is still barred from the first team, while another high earner Raphael Varane has also been linked to a move away. How Sir Jim’s advice influences the future of both athletes is still to be seen.

By the end of next month, United is rumored to desire a striker, a center-back, and two midfielders; however, Financial Fair Play regulations may ruin the ambitions of the Glazers and their new minority opponent.
