“It’s the same words since I arrived..” Frustrated Sheffield Wednesday boss Danny Röhl left rueing broken record after Coventry City defeat

The loss left the Owls farther outside the safety zones following victories for relegation rivals Huddersfield Town and Stoke City. The Owls gave up control of the first half as the Sky Blues had the better of the play, but they recovered in the second half to provide a danger of an equalizer that never materialized.

Wednesday’s team was reduced to ten men after Callum Paterson was replaced due to a head injury. Tatsuhiro Sakamoto, a Japanese international, gave Coventry the lead in the twentieth minute. From then on, the game ebbed and flowed, with the Owls missing major chances until Sakamoto came back a minute before the end to seal the victory for the hosts.

Röhl has expressed irritation on multiple times with Wednesday’s play at both ends of the field, saying that it is costing them dearly in games even though their play style and approach between the boxes have clearly improved. He appeared to be annoyed by the theme being played again after the game.

He told swfc.co.uk, “I think we saw two different halves.” “We played a little deeper in the first half in an attempt to draw them closer and create more room for our counterattacks, but when we gained the ball in this area, we lacked the clarity to execute effective transition plays.

“We shifted to a more forward-oriented structure in the second half, as per our strategy, and I felt like we took control of the game at that point. When you finally look, you can see that they scored their goal with just one chance, and that was our day’s pivotal moment.

“We had a huge, huge opportunity to rally and get the equalizer, but we blew it. Our team’s performance in the second half was encouraging, but as I’ve said before, the two boxes represent the crucial and dangerous areas where we still need to make improvements.

On Friday night, Wednesday will try to pick themselves up and give it another go at winning their second away game of the season against Preston North End. They’ll probably be missing former Deepdale player Bambo Diaby, who was dismissed following the final whistle for a brawl with Coventry defender Liam Kitching.
