Carter-Vickers injury addressed ahead of Celtic vs Rangers

The 25-year-old was brought on during this afternoon’s 3-0 triumph over Dundee by the champions.

Just before the game’s hour mark, the American international went down and seemed to hold his hamstring. This year, he has already battled with an injury in the same region.

Stephen Welsh entered the pitch in his place as he walked off.

The defender’s absence from Celtic’s upcoming match at Parkhead against Rangers raises obvious worries.

The early diagnosis seems to indicate that the injuries might have been far worse, though.

“Thankfully, his hamstring hasn’t gone, but he just felt a little bit tight,” Rodgers said to Sky Sports. We’ve previously advised him to let us know if he feels anything.

“So he just started to tighten up a little bit, we were able to take him off, and Stephen Welsh comes in and was excellent.”

The Irishman said, “Nothing and anything,” when asked directly if Carter-Vickers would be okay to play for Rangers and if he knew any additional details regarding the knock. I’m not sure; in the upcoming days, the medical staff will evaluate him and determine our current status.”

In the event that the American is unable to play this weekend, Maik Nawrocki and Gustag Lagerbielke, both Welsh, will likely start.

Paulo Bernardo and Mikey Johnston goals put the Hoops up comfortably at Dens Park on Boxing Day.

The effort and application he witnessed from his troops delighted Rodgers.

“You come up here on Christmas night and you come away from your family,” he explained. “I thought from the very first whistle, the mentality from the team was excellent.

“We had a chance to lead at halftime. Whatever Dundee had, I believe, came from us occasionally acting a little carefree.

Overall, we preserved a clean sheet and generated a lot of opportunities. The crew had excellent attitude and energy.”
